Gas & Electric
Consolidated Edison:

Call this general number to get your area representative number. There
is no charge to turn on service and typically no deposit. Turn around
time 24 hours. Paperwork: address and apartment number, employer’s
address, your previous address, social security number, day time phone.
Water
NYC Bureau of Water Supply: 212-396-3580
Water and sewer service is provided by
local water districts. Generally, you will not need to contact a provider.
Telephone
Bell Atlantic:

Basic hook-up charge $55.00( if apartment already has a jack) Expect the
cost for Bell Atlantic to install jack: $202.00 plus tax, for one line,
$250.00 for two lines. If you install the line expect Bell Atlantic cost
for hook-up, $85.00 plus tax, for one line, $170.00 for two.
- No deposit required, but you must
supply your own phone.
- Basic monthly service charges $10.00.
Paperwork: address and apartment number,
employer’s number (if you are unemployed provide two pieces of
ID), landlord’s number, your previous address, and social security
number. Turn around time two to five business days.
Cable
Time Warner is the NYC primary cable
company. It is almost always necessary to have cable to view even the
standard network stations.

Installation $62.00, including tax. Basic reception $12.00, Standard
cable package $30.00.
Cablevision (Brooklyn & Bronx):
